Jesus Monico, PhD, MPH

Dr. Monico is an instructor at the University Of Mississippi Medical Center School Of Medicine in the Department of Pathology and the Department of Otolaryngology and Communicative Sciences. He began working at UMMC in 2002, recruited to develop the clinical research program for the Department of Otolaryngology and Communicative Sciences. Dr. Monico was established the UMMC Biobank within the Department of Pathology in 2011 and was fundamental in the Biobank receiving Center designation in 2018.

Dr. Monico’s research interests include Biobanking, Head and Neck Cancer Research, Clinical Trial Management, Research Study Designs, Epidemiology, Database Management and Research Ethics.  He is a member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology, Mississippi Public Health Association and International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories. He holds special licensures including Healthcare Lean Certificate, Histotechnologist Certificate and Certified Clinical Research Coordinator.

Dr. Monico has several peer-reviewed publications and serves on various committees. He is PI on three current sponsor-program funded research projects and recently received the Spero Award for the most supportive healthcare Staff of the year at the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency.
